Pennsylvania mountain bikers are creating a statewide group to give a single voice to protect trail access, Keystone Mountain Bike Association, www.bikekmba.org. All local groups are urged to climb aboard. Philadelphia mountain bikers continue to give back to the Wissahickon with monthly workdays.
The Jersey Action Riders and the Delaware Valley Mountain Bike Patrol held an IMBA Trail School in the Wissahickon in October to help train crew leaders. More info: www.jerseyactionriders.org.
The Jersey Off Road Bicycle Assocation (JORBA) is supporting open space by donating to the Morris Land and Trails Conservancies. The group planted 50 trees on Arbor Day, their patrol helped sponsor the 24 Hours of Allamuchy and they've extended their trial maintenance program to include Stephens State Park in Hackettstown, NJ.
In Westchester County, NY, the county's Park & Rec director, David DeLucia, led efforts to build 15 miles of singletrack at Blue Mountain, seven miles in Graham Hills and five miles in Sprain Park in Yonkers - 10 miles from downtown NYC.
The New England Mountain Bike Association raised $90K to buy land in Milford, MA. NEMBA purchased an option to buy a large chunk of the fabled Vietnam riding area, and has until December 2003 to raise $200K. To make a donation to their Land Preservation Fund, go to www.nemba.org.
