National Mountain Bike Patrol Update

IMBA Trail News
Volume 15, Number 4
Fall 2002

1. NMBP Welcomes Twenty New Patrols

Twenty new patrol units have formed and affiliated with IMBA's National Mountain Bike Patrol this year. Our newest additions are the Joaquin Miller Park Patrol in Berkeley, California and the Big Mountain Bike Patrol in Whitefish, Montana. There are now a total of 70 U.S. patrol units, plus units in Japan, Italy and Canada.

2. Bay Area Patrol Expands

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen), near San Jose, CA, invited the Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers Patrol (ROMP) to provide volunteer services at one of their preserves. This is important in that it should improve relations between mountain bikers and Midpen management.

3. North Tennessee Patrol Signs Agreement

The Northeast Tennessee Mountain Bike Association signed a model agreement with the Cherokee National Forest in March to promote responsible forest stewardship. The MOU serves as a framework for the relationship between the club's mountain bike patrol and the national forest by defining duties and responsibilities. View the document at imba.com.

4. Sponsors Support Patrollers

The NMBP program continues to expand with the help of our sponsors. IMBA thanks CLIF Shot, CamelBak, Pearl Izumi, Sock Guy, Voler Team Apparel and McKay Insurance Agency for their generous support, which includes cash, schwag and other contributions.

5. NMBP Product Update

The NMBP has teamed with its sponsors to offer patrollers a complete uniform. From patrol socks, shorts, jerseys and jackets to hydration packs: we've got it covered. NMBP merchandise is available to patrollers at deeply discounted prices. Visit IMBA's online store at imba.com to purchase patrol supplies.
