At Oleta River State Park, outside Miami, Florida, the park manager wants to add to the 12 miles of great singletrack available to mountain bikers. The problem is cyclists aren't showing up at trailwork days. If mountain bikers don't start attending, trail expansion plans may be scrapped. Give the park a call at 305-919-1846 and get involved today.

The U.S. Forest Service and Augusta, Georgia, mountain bikers are working to make the Tower Trail an authorized route. The trail is unique because sits on hilly terrain in an otherwise flat region. The Forest Service is seeking comment letters regarding the Tower Trail. Special thanks to District Ranger Beth LeMaster for soliciting mountain biker input on this issue. More info: sorba.org.

Work has begun on the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area trail system near Toccoa, Georgia. The Forest Service, SORBA and several equestrian groups are partnering on trail construction. The proposed 40-mile multi-use trail system is funded by a Recreational Trails Program grant. The area was formerly the site of Camp Toccoa, used to train the 101st Airborne during World War II.

The Macon, Georgia, chapter of SORBA recently broke ground on several miles of new singletrack at Arrowhead Park on Lake Tobesofkee, just west of the city. When complete, these could be some of the best trails in central Georgia.

SORBA and the Chattahoochee Trail Horse Association will collaborate on a major trail construction project on National Trails Day, June 1. The two groups will construct several miles of new singletrack at the popular Bull/Jake Mountain Trail Complex, site of a 2002 IMBA Epic near Dahlonega, Georgia.
