Early Summer 2002
As an optimist, I'm going to apply my philosophy to the miserable snow year most of the Rockies just experienced. Sure, our lawns may be more khaki than green, but that's what nature intended, right? The positive side of our current drought is that riding season is upon us early! Get out there, and remember to ride soft and smooth.
Speaking of sustainable riding, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will work with volunteers and land managers on several trail systems near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, June 21-30. For more info contact David Vandenberg from Friends of Pathways at .
The Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association will hold its annual trails celebration on the Uncompahgre Plateau, June 22-23. Activities include trailwork, guided rides, a swag raffle and a picnic. Contact IMBA Western Colorado Rep Bill Harris at for more information.
While tourists sweat in Las Vegas casinos, IMBA will host a Trailbuilding School high atop the Spring Mountains west of town, July 24-28. To get involved, contact Matt Carter of the Basin and Range Trail Advocates at .
A familiar name to IMBA members has taken the helm at the IMBA affiliate Boulder Off-Road Alliance. Jon Alegranti, IMBA's National Mountain Bike Patrol and Trail Care Crew coordinator from 1997-2001, recently accepted the position as BOA's executive director. Good luck Jon! One parting thought: Fire danger is extremely high in the Western forests this summer, so skip the campfire.
