The Jersey Off-Road Bicycle Association is seeking donations to build a memorial for avid mountain biker/IMBA major donor Dean Eberling, who died September 11 while saving colleagues at the World Trade Center. The New England Mountain Bike Association is raising money to protect one of Boston's premier technical riding areas, Vietnam, from development. The Pedro's-Harpoon MTB Adventures Series charity rides will benefit this conservation effort. More info: www.nemba.org.
The Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts are working with Maryland's House Speaker, Casper Taylor, to promote mountain bike tourism in the western part of the state.
The potential closure of Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) trails to mountain bikers has upset many Keystone resident and politicians, prompting Bill 2181 that would ensure that the public has more input into the Commission's policies. PGC controls 35 percent of Pennsylvania's public land, yet does not receive the same level of public scrutiny as other state agencies.
Central New York's Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released a draft recreation plan that would close trails to bicycling unless specifically posted open, and would impose a seasonal bike ban between November 1 and April 30. More info:www.ggw.org/NYMBC.
