In Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rampart Reservoir and the trails that surround it have been closed to public access indefinitely because of the events of September 11. The reservoir is part of the Colorado Springs water system.
A new trail just opened to mountain bikers in Boulder, Colorado, thanks to steadfast efforts by the Boulder Off-Road Alliance (boa-mtb.org) and Boulder County Open Space (www.co.boulder.co.us/openspace). The two groups partnered to build the 7.5-mile Heil Valley Ranch Trail - a fun, wide-open singletrack in the foothills north of town. The groups are now planning a connector trail to the Canyon Loop Trail at Betasso Preserve. The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will assist in the design of this connector, which will allow cyclists to bypass a dangerous section of highway.
In southern Nevada mountain bikers are working with conservation and land management groups on a proposed Wilderness. The proposed Wilderness would offer protection to Nevadašs Spring Mountain Range, but would also thwart the proposed Spring Mountain Perimeter Trail that mountain bikers, the city of Las Vegas, the BLM, USFS and National Parks Service are working to create. IMBA is asking mountain bikers to comment on this issue. More info is available at the Action Alert section of imba.com.
IMBA corporate supporter Latitude 40 has new maps available that will have Rocky Mountain cyclists salivating. The recently published Southwest Colorado Recreation Topo Map shows so many trails that it would take a lifetime to ride them all. The folks at Latitude 40 are now designing the Fruita & Grand Junction Recreation Topo Map, available in late-March 2002. More info: .
