Unauthorized Thanks
Thank you for your special section on unauthorized trails in your Early Summer 2001 edition of IMBA Trail News. Not only have you nationally exposed the practice, but you did it in a solution oriented, professional way that will hopefully get peoples attention enough to make them stop. I'm not in a fantasyland - I know it may never stop. But the look in the eyes of the people I shared the article with, many of whom are known or suspected renegade builders, was priceless. Nothing is more frustrating than hiking down a trail with to a Park Manager trying to convince him to open more trails to bikes, only to come upon an unauthorized trail or play park. He'll look right at me and say. "Why should I when stuff like this goes on?"

TCC Reroute in Reno
Thank you for sending the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew to Reno, Nevada. We had a great turnout for a morning trailbuilding slideshow and trailbuilding introduction at Patagonia headquarters, attended by land managers from the BLM, local bike shop representatives, Tahoe Rim Trail representatives, local IMBA members, and Patagonia employees. The next two days were spent on the White Creek Trail, which originally was built down the fall line and subject to heavy erosion. We rerouted the trail creating something that is now sustainable for generations to come.

Long Live Dogfood Posters
I was reading through a bicycling magazine the other day when I came across the IMBA advertisement "Long Live, Long Rides" where the women is overfilling her dog's food bowl. Brilliant stuff - it's good to see IMBA working to attract mountain bikers outside the standard advocacy circle. Is it possible to get a poster of this ad for my garage bike shop?

The Long Live Long Rides campaign was produced by long-time IMBA supporter TDA Advertising of Boulder, CO. For a limited time, IMBA has a special edition Long Live Long Rides poster available for $5. The posters are 11" x 14" and are perfect for any mountain biker's garage - or living room, for that matter. Long Live Long Rides bumper stickers will also be available soon. Check out www.imba.com for more info. Look for ads two and three in this series soon.
