The New England Mountain Bike Association kicked off the Pedro's-Harpoon MTB Adventure Series to raise money for a cyclist who was paralyzed riding the trails at Lynn Woods, MA. More than 220 riders participated in the ride - including the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew - producing a donation of $5,000 to the David Kirby Trust. The Kingdom Trails Association (www.kingdomtrails.org) has a created a new map documenting more than 100 miles of trails for mountain bikers in East Burke, VT. Kingdom Trails has applied to manage trails on 128,000 acres of land formerly logged by Champion Paper. If successful, the group will help establish access in the 2002 management plan.
The Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (www.more-mtb.org) has proposed a new trail system in Montgomery County to create 10 miles of new multi-use singletrack, adding to the county's own plan to develop a modest four-mile trail.
