IMBA Trail News
Volume 14, Number 1
Spring 2001
The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area near Los Angeles is in the final stages of completing its General Management Plan. Mountain bikers from CORBA (www.corbamtb.com) have been involved in every step of the process and report that the plan looks generally good for bikes. A more specific trail plan will follow, and mountain bikers plan to stay involved.
Attention Bay Area riders: Get your work gloves and Carharts ready because lots of trailwork events are scheduled this spring. The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay (www.btceastbay.org) will work Pleasanton Ridge on April 1st, and will team with IMBA's Trail Care Crew in Joaquin Miller Park on May 20. Call Thom Zang at 925-362-4810 for details.
BTC Marin (www.btcmarin.org) will also get a visit from the Crew on May 19. ROMP is supporting a long list of events (www.romp.org) and has been busy building new trails at Water Dog Lake Park in Belmont.
Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (www.mbosc.org) have been working hard to open more multi-use trails in Wilder/Gray Whale Ranch State Park. Their persistence may pay off: land managers are considering three new trails in the area.
The Southern Oregon Mountain Bike Association has been reborn in Ashland with lots of new energy. Visit www.somba.org to learn about group rides, trailwork, and their partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
Washington mountain bikers are watching the development of a new Access and Travel Management Plan for the Middle Fork Valley of the Snoqualmie River. Riders are encouraged to comment on this important plan. Surf to www.bbtc.org for details.
