Florida's Ocala Mountain Bike Club is expanding its 50-mile trail network near Interstate 75 to both sides of the highway thanks to the construction of a $3.1 million land bridge. The bridge will allow hikers, cyclists and equestrians to cross the interstate without even seeing the highway.
Congrats to Tampa's Southwestern Association of Mountain Pedalers (www.swampclub.org) who have developed and now maintain more than 100 miles of singletrack in their region. Over the years, nearly 500 SWAMP members have also joined IMBA.
In Alabama, Governor Don Siegleman recently appointed Ken Hester, one of Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedaler's founders, to the Alabama Recreational Trail Advisory Board. Ken is also IMBA's Alabama state rep.

The city of Gallatin, Tennessee, celebrated National Trails Day with a 2000 Millennium Trail Award. It was presented to the Sumner County Cycle Club and the Department of Leisure Services for their work on the Lock 4 Mountain Bike Park.
Roswell, Georgia, mountain bikers participated in the Roswell City Council's decision to purchase a 160-acre tract known as the Wilmer Property. The property was slated for development as an apartment complex. Hikers and mountain bikers have long enjoyed the peace and quiet of this undeveloped tract and it will now be preserved as greenspace. The $16 million purchase price was funded by a local sales tax established for greenspace preservation.
