Downieville, California: Almost 70 volunteers showed up for FATRAC's National Trails Day event on June 3 to build about a mile of singletrack along the developing North Yuba Trail Extension in Tahoe National Forest.
Bellingham, Washington: The WHIMPs volunteered for the Audubon Society's Walk-for-Wildlife. The event drew about 400 people and raised almost $10,000 for trail and habitat funding. The WHIMPs also recently received a RockShox/IMBA grant, which they used to purchase a BOB trailer, complete with tool caddy. The new rig will streamline the job of clearing some of the nasty nettles so prevalent in the Northwest at this time of the year.
Boise, Idaho: During their National Trails Day event the Southwest Idaho Mountain Bike Association, and Ridge to Rivers combined efforts to survey trail users. Supported by REI's Boise store, more than 98 volunteers positioned themselves at 12 selected trailheads in the Boise Front Range. A total of 1,170 trail users were asked for input on how the trail system might be improved. Results from this first comprehensive assessment will be posted some time after July 4 on the Ridge to Rivers web site: www.ridgetorivers.org. Contact Harley Parson, (208) 389-9043 Portland,
Oregon: PUMP and the NW Education Service District have been awarded a $55,000 National Recreation Trails Fund grant to establish a full-time trail crew for one year to work on the trails at Washington County Park's Hagg Lake.
