The Friends of the Massabesic Mountain Bike Association received one of five statewide "Plan NH Year 2000 Merit Awards" for their singletrack trails construction project. The award was presented to them for "improving the New Hampshire community through excellence in planning, design and development."
Cape Cod NEMBA was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust for their wetlands restoration project on Bourne Conservation Land. NEMBA has teamed with the Eastern Fat Tire Association to create a benefit Fun Ride Series throughout New England, with monies raised going to various non-profit causes.
Wachusett NEMBA's Trails to a Cure Fun Ride raised $5,000 for the Fragile X Research Foundation, a group that seeks to find a cure for this common form of childhood retardation. Check out www.nemba.org for a benefit fun ride near you.
Access to the Middlesex Fells is once again under attack, spurning Greater Boston NEMBA to ramp up its advocacy efforts in this important park.
In Baltimore, MAMBO negotiated a deal with the City of Baltimore to retain limited access to the trails at Loch Raven Reservoir.
In New York, GUMBA, whose patrol now has 60 riders, is proposing the construction of trails in a new tract of open space that will soon become part of the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will help them review the proposed trails.
