Summer 2000
Thanks to generous funding from RockShox, IMBA has awarded the first round of 2000 Club Assistance Grants. Each organization receives $250. Since the inception of the grant program in 1997, RockShox has contributed more than $45,000 to mountain biking groups. Grant winners this round include:
- Friends of Off-Road Cycling - FORC (Rock Island, IL) will use their
grant to reroute and reclaim trails in Loud Thunder Forest Preserve. Initiated
in 1980, this mountain biking area has fallen into disrepair, keeping FORC busy
constructing bridges over creeks and muddy areas and rerouting trails.
- Discovery Program (Orange, VA) will use the funding to construct a
beginner mountain bike trail, renovate a section of existing trail, and conduct a
trail study that will provide recommendations to local land managers. The program
is a partnership between students from Prospect Heights Middle School and the
Walnut Creek Park Trail Volunteers.
- Whatcom Independent Mountain Pedalers - WHIMPS (Bellingham, WA) have
purchased a BOB trailer with their grant. The trailer will be used to haul tools
and other supplies to further this group's already impressive list of trail
building accomplishments. Their immediate plans include the rerouting of a trail
in the Lake Padden Recreation Area.
- Routt County Riders (Steamboat Springs, CO) plan to use this grant to
construct the Lower Little Bear Trail, which will serve as an important connector
between an existing trail system and a newly constructed Forest Service
trailhead. This new link will reduce friction between trail users and nearby land
owners.
- Folsom-Auburn Trail Riders Action Coalition - FATRAC (Newcastle, CA) will use their grant in conjunction with existing funds to construct new trailhead facilities and a new multiuse trail in Downieville, California. These developments will serve an increasing number of seasonal users.
RockShox has been IMBA's No. 1 bicycle industry supporter since 1996. This leader in bicycle suspension technology supports IMBA's multi-faceted work to keep trails open for mountain bikers. RockShox grants provide cash and trailwork tools to IMBA groups around the world.
