David Gordon, recreation ranger for the Ketchum ranger district of the Sawtooth National Forest (Idaho), is revving up the seventh year of his successful adopt-a-trail program. Nearly every trail in the district is open to mountain bikes; Gordon's program has helped keep trails in good condition and trail user relations in harmony.

Portland United Mountain Pedalers (www.rdrop.com/users/terryh/pump.html) recently signed Full Sail Brewery as a sponsor. The Hood River, Oregon, company will help fund the PUMP newsletter, contribute swag for fundraisers, and provide refreshment to thirsty volunteers. Last year PUMP chipped in more than 800 hours of trailwork in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. We bet the figure triples this year!

Jim Jacobsen and Bicycle Trails Council Marin (www.btcmarin.org) are working on the final section of the Tamarancho Trail System (Fairfax, California). The Marin County Open Space District is recommending that BTC Marin build more shared-use trails near San Rafael, too.

Jim Haagen-Smit reports that REI recently awarded a $6,000 grant to the Northern California IMBA group, FATRAC (www.jps.net/fatrac), for a trailhead project near Downieville. IMBA and ROMP (San Jose) are also contributing. Ride on in Downieville!
