Spring 2000
In Arkansas, the Ozark Off-Road Cyclists report that trail development opportunities abound. Land managers were impressed with recent visits by the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew and a number of new trail projects are planned. Volunteers are needed to bring the projects to completion. To help, contact IMBA state representative, David Renko ( ).
The KyMBA (KY) is meeting with land managers at Carter Caves State Park and Taylorsville Lake State Park to inquire about opening some trails to mountain biking and building new multi-use trails. The new Briar Hill Park in Oldham County, Kentucky, just northeast of Louisville, will contain about 10 miles of multi-use trail designed and constructed almost exclusively by mountain bikers.
In South Carolina, the USFS is working on a statewide trail plan. October 2000 is the target completion date.
Georgia mountain bikers are facing a potential closure. Mountaintown Creek Trail is located in a Wilderness Study Area proposed by a USFS Forest Plan revision. This 7-mile downhill trail has long been popular as a remote, technical trail. SORBA members have performed many hours of trail maintenance on this trail.
