Pennsylvania has been slow in developing a wide advocacy base, however, there is a new group in Lykens, PA, called the Rattling Creek Singletrackers (717-453-7929) that is getting involved before problems arise.
In Massachusetts, the Middlesex Fells, Greater Boston NEMBA (www.nemba.org) has been meeting with park officials to develop marked bike loops on the already legal fireroad trails and to convince park staff not to extend the winter cycling ban beyond April 15th. State Police will now issue tickets to those caught breaking this rule.
The Vermont Mountain Bike Advocates (www.vmba.org) is growing fast, and is developing strategies to allow public biking on private land, a long standing tradition for other recreational users in this state.
On the trail buidling side of things, NEMBA has built 8.5 miles of new rock n' rolling singletrack in various parks in Massachusetts and held 85 workdays in 36 different areas throughout New England. NEMBA also donated $4,000 to groups purchasing open space.
Near Charleston WV, the Mountain State Wheelers BC ( ) are poised to build multi-use trail in the Kanawha SF.
