Participants at IMBA's late September European Trailbuilding School in Switzerland received free trailwork tools, donated by RockShox and IMBA.

The two-day school, which was held in Les Sciernes in southwestern Switzerland, attracted land managers, race promoters and mountain biking representatives from six nations. The school was taught by Jan and Mike Riter, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew No. 1.

In addition to classroom discussions on trailbuilding, maintenance and signing techniques, school participants evaluated trails in Les Sciernes and also assessed the cross-country and downhill racing courses used for the 1997 World Mountain Bike Championships in nearby Chateau d'Oex. The goal of the school was to teach participants how to build and repair trails that are long-lasting and fun.

The IMBA European Trailbuilding School was the fourth special event conducted by IMBA in Europe since '95. Additional IMBA European Trailbuilding Schools are planned for Great Britain (Wales, Feb. '00) and maybe the Netherlands (summer or fall).
