Four years ago, we reported on the fundraising efforts of the Portland United Mountain Pedallers (PUMP) to help "Fix the Hole in Forest Park." PUMP raised more than $2,000 in just a few weeks to help purchase a 73-acre parcel in the 5,000-acre park within Portland, Oregon.

The money sat unused until this year, when the Friends of Forest Park negotiated a $1 million purchase of the parcel and another 31 acres.

It's another victory for the mutual interests of conservation and recreation access.
