NMBP Instructor Training Conference to be held in Wisconsin in October

IMBA Trail News

September-October 1998

The National Mountain Bike Patrol will hold its second annual Instructor Training Conference on October 23-35 in Cable, Wisconsin. Cable is the home of the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival and the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race. Trek Bicycle Corporation is a sponsor of the 1998 and 1999 NMBP Instructor Training Conferences.

The conference, coordinated by IMBA, will bring together leaders of volunteer mountain bike patrols from established patrols and fledgling groups, as well as land managers and ski area operations people from across the U.S. and Canada. The NMBP model draws on the concept of the National Ski Patrol and park host programs that emphasize assistance, information, and education; not enforcement.

Trainees will participate in a variety of workshops and panel discussions which will assist them in working with land managers to implement volunteer mountain bike patrol groups in their home riding areas. Upon completion of the clinic, trainees will be certified as NMBP Instructors. Speakers will include land managers, ski patrollers, mountain bike advocates, and mountain bike patrol representatives from across the U.S. and Canada.

Volunteer mountain bike assistance patrol groups help mountain bikers develop strong relationships with land managers, provide invaluable service to trail users and land managers, and keep trails open. And patrolling is a great excuse to ride your bike.

Space is limited. Anyone interested in attending the conference and becoming an NMBP instructor should contact IMBA at (303) 545-9011 or .
