TCC's Helping Trails Nationwide
IMBA Trail News
Volume 11, Number 3
July-August 1998
In just four months on the road, the two Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews have helped lead 115 projects in 26 states. Jan and Mike Riter (TCC1), and Ric Balfour and Holly Hill (TCC2), have worked side by side with thousands of mountain bikers and hundreds of land managers since their Cactus Cup kick-off on March 15. They've also had a chance to ride with "locals" in each place they stay.
Jan and Mike Riter made their way up the West Coast and worked in every state in the Northwest before spending two weeks in Colorado this summer. They are currently headed toward Georgia for the World Cup race in their hometown of Conyers on July 11th and 12th. On July 24th-26th, they will be teaching an IMBA/TCC Trail Building School in Roanoke, Virginia. Call the IMBA office for details on how to participate.
After Cactus Cup, Ric Balfour and Holly Hill traveled from Arizona to New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana. Pulaskis in hand, they then headed north to Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio. After Virginia, Maryland and Delaware, they arrived in New England. They will work there until the end of July, when they head east toward Illinois.
In August, both Crews will work together in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Highlights include two more trail building seminars: a one day seminar on August 16th in the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Wisconsin and a three day workshop in Minnesota Aug. 28-30.
Subaru's generous support of two Trail Care Crews this year has made it possible to reach more IMBA-affiliated clubs, more land managers, and work on many more trails. A special thanks to IMBA-affiliated clubs for their fantastic hospitality.
