Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, and innovative trail management solutions. IMBA's worldwide network includes 35,000 individual members, more than 750 affiliated clubs, over 130 corporate partners and an equal number of bicycle retailer members. IMBA's members live in all 50 states, most Canadian provinces and in 30 other countries. IMBA's headquarters are located in Boulder, Colorado. We currently have 28 staff members and 11 volunteer directors. The annual operating budget is expected to be about $3.2 million in 2008. IMBA is tax exempt in compliance with section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.
Job Description:
IMBA's Controller is responsible for accounting systems development and oversight to meet financial accountability and reporting requirements of a 501C)(3), nonprofit organization. Reporting to the Executive Director the Controller works closely with management team members, finance committee/board members, independent auditors and affiliates. The controller will be responsible for development and maintenance of appropriate financial and administrative systems and for all financial accounting, banking and investments, A/R and A/P transactions, and payroll as well as compliance with foundation, city, state and federal reporting requirements.
Responsibilities Include:
- Manage and oversee the annual independent audit and IRS 990 filing.
- Prepare monthly financial reports including budget and year-to-date variance, income/expense statements, financial forecasts, etc.
- Oversee all bookkeeping and journal entries for proper coding of all financial transactions.
- Manage the integration of accounting data management functions with IMBA's CRM tools.
- Direct and prepare the annual operating budget, consolidating program and department budgets.
- Implement board directed financial policies and procedures.
- Oversee the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
- Manage and develop accounting operations including the chart of accounts for proper tracking and analysis of program and organizational financial performance.
- Oversee cash management and banking including monthly reconciliations.
- Provide guidance for the development of contracts and grant proposals for all government, foundation and vendor relationships including insurance, health and retirement benefits, leases (equipment, auto and office leases), capital purchases, etc.
- Manage monthly payroll processing.
- Manage and oversee A/R and invoicing for program services (trails projects) and major gifts/annual dues.
- Provide guidance to affiliates concerning IRS reporting requirements and regulations governing nonprofit business operations.
- Manage IMBA's IRS group exemption program for chapter benefit.
- Oversee CFC application and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required; CPA certification preferred.
- At least 5 years of nonprofit financial accounting and business management experience, preferably with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
- Must possess demonstrated financial and related business operations skills including hands-on skills with accounting software as well as proficiency with Excel or other spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to interact professionally and collaboratively with senior management and board members as well as with vendors, donors, members and select government agencies.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple time-sensitive projects; firm commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with CRM databases, or fundraising database software is also desirable.
- The successful candidate will be a self-directed, energetic person who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
