"All of us, at least once, have been swept by the burst of exhilaration that follows the first successful passage of a once-impossible section of trail," writes Richard Cunningham, editor-at-large for Mountain Bike Action, in the newly released IMBA/Kona Freeride Guide. "Freeriding provides unprecedented opportunities for that experience," adds Cunningham in "Out of the Shadows," the Guide's opening essay.
Kona Bicycles sponsored this year's edition of the annual publication - a 16-page, full-color magazine packed with freeriding images and useful articles on topics like "The Emergence of Bike Parks," "Overcoming Objections to Freeriding," and "Great Places to Freeride on Public Land." To view theses stories online, along with 40 other articles on freeriding, visit IMBA's Freeriding Resource pages online.
Mark Peterson, Advocacy Director for Kona, notes that the company has a long tradition of supporting freeriding. "Kona was fortunate to be located near the North Shore, one of the epicenters of the modern freeride movement," writes Peterson in his "Note from Kona" essay. Kona recently hosted the "Buck-A Bowl Funraiser" at the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas. Proceeds from the event support the Kona/IMBA Freeride Grants program.
The 2006 Freeride Guide will arrive in IMBA members' mailboxes in early October. It's available online in pdf form, and print copies can be requested by writing . Shipping is free in the U.S., and handled at-cost for international deliveries.
