Whistler Blackcomb weekend includes kids and parents.
Sprockids Coastriders held a unique mountain bike camp at Whistler Blackcomb in British Colombia, Canada, this September.
Named the XC/Freeride Camp for the Generations, the goal of the camp was to bring teenagers and their parents together to experience the excitement and adventure of mountain biking.
On Saturday, the Sprockids Coastriders and their parents divided into groups and rode sweet singletrack with their Whistler Blackcomb guides. The ride included challenging terrain ranging from slippery rocks and roots to berms, logs and teeter-totters. For many parents, it was their first experience riding such tricky terrain.
After lunch, everyone participated in a Poker Ride. The object of the ride is to complete a number of stunts and challenges while smiling and laughing. It's not a race, rather a chance for parents and teenagers to share their accomplishments and have great time.
After Saturday's rides, all camp participants were treated to a tasty barbecue and softball game before retiring to the Whistler Blackcomb staff housing for well-deserved rest.
Sunday was freeride day! Everyone strapped on full-face helmets and body armor and hopped on a downhill rig for some full suspension fun. After descending Whistler Blackcomb's challenging downhill trails in the morning, the local guides taught everyone how to catch air at the jumping park. Even parents were clearing the gap jumps.
Throughout the weekend parents and kids connected on many levels. Teenagers offered instruction to their parents and helped them accomplish things neither thought possible. It wasn't uncommon to see parents and their children high-fiving each other after riding a technical section of singletrack or clearing a jump.
By the camp's end, Sprockids Coastriders parents had discovered the adventure of cross country riding and the adrenaline rush of freeriding while spending quality time with their children.
