IMBA is looking for a few good people to serve on its Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee seeks individuals who are passionate about the activity of mountain biking and have the unique skills and insight that will help us guide IMBA and grow mountain bike access worldwide.

Job Description

AUTHORITY/RESPONSIBILITY: The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the International Mountain Bicycling Association. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, marketing/promotion and/or personnel.

TERM: Directors are elected by the membership at the bi-annual general meeting. Directors serve for a four-year term. Directors may be re-elected for two additional terms.

REQUIREMENTS: Commitment to the mission and work of the organization. Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, marketing/promotion and/or personnel. Willingness to serve on at least one committee and actively participate; attendance at Board meetings three times per year, one monthly one-hour conference call, and periodic committee conference calls. A time commitment of five hours per month, (includes Board preparation, meeting and committee meeting time) is required. Should be informed on the programs and services provided by IMBA and publicly support them. Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board. Annual financial support that is meaningful to the director. Lead by example with IMBA's fundraising efforts.

MAJOR DUTIES: Governing IMBA by the broad policies developed by the Board and in accordance with IMBA's by-laws. Establish overall strategic direction, long and short term goals, annual objectives and priorities for IMBA in meeting the needs of the organization. Recommend policy to the Board and Executive Director. Promote IMBA's mission and help grow membership through community networking. Being accountable to IMBA's financial supporters for the services provided and funds expended. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of IMBA through a regular review of programs and services. Being accountable and seeking nominations for election to the Board when appropriate. Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board. Foster a positive working relationship with other Board members, and IMBA staff. Demonstrate leadership and commitment to organizational values. Be aware of and disclose any personal and/or professional conflict of interest.
