Mountain bikers gathered in the Mediterranean town of Finale Ligure, Italy, this spring to attend Europe's inaugural mountain bike patrol training seminar. Attendees of the International Mountain Bicycling Association seminar, held March 9-11, learned mountain bike patrol procedures including first aid skills, bike repair, responsible trail use and patrol organization.
The Finale Ligure Patrol, which is managed by the IMBA-affiliated club BluBike, is the first-ever European mountain bike patrol. The group will begin its work by organizing trailbuilding events and creating a local trail map to promote mountain biking in the region.
IMBA's National Mountain Bike Patrol program emphasizes assistance, information and education. More than 75 volunteer patrol groups provide valuable trail services throughout the United States, Canada and Japan.
The International Mountain Bicycling Association is a non-profit organization. Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, and innovative trail management solutions.
