Trail design and advocacy experts from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) will visit Australia in February to share knowledge and experience on mountain bike management, trailbuilding, conflict resolution and volunteer group mobilization.

Working in partnership with Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA), IMBA membership and communications director Pete Webber and trails specialist Joey Klein will travel throughout the country February 11-26, 2002.

The IMBA team will visit five cities during their two week coast-to-coast tour. At each location, the team will meet with local mountain bikers, connect with area land managers, lead discussions on trail access issues, present slideshows displaying IMBA's work around the world, and share advice on advanced trailbuilding and maintenance techniques.

"Australia boasts wonderful terrain for mountain biking and a growing network of committed cycling advocates," said IMBA executive director Tim Blumenthal. "IMBA brings 14 years of experience in resolving access issues and building better trails. We're excited about what we can accomplish for mountain biking together."

The schedule is as follows:

February 12, Townsville
February 13-14, Cairns
February 16-19, Perth
February 20-21, Adelaide
February 22-25, Canberra (including Perisher Blue Resorts)

IMBA creates, enhances and preserves trail opportunities for mountain bikers worldwide. Since 1988, IMBA has been bringing out the best in mountain biking by encouraging low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, and innovative trail management solutions.

IMBA's worldwide network includes 32,000 individual members, more than 450 bicycle clubs, more than 100 corporate partners and an equal number of bicycle retailer members.

MTBA was formed in 1999 as an alternative national body specifically for mountain bike. MTBA currently has more 1,000 members and 35 member clubs distributed all across Australia. MTBA is keenly concerned about initiating and supporting sustainable trail access for all cyclists.
