IMBA urges mountain bikers to help open new singletrack in Vermont. The Green Mountain National Forest -- until now almost exclusively off-limits for mountain biking -- is considering increased mountain bike access on its trail system.

This historic opportunity is the result of extensive advocacy work by the Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA).

Take Action! Tell the Forest Service you support opening trails to mountain bikes. The deadline for comments is Monday, April 21.

Only recently, bicycles were largely prohibited from trails and even roads in this important forest, but the Forest Service has developed a positive working relationship with local mountain bikers, opening the door for increased access.

Many Green Mountain National Forest trails feature the rugged terrain and incredible scenery that makes Vermont a destination for cyclists. Local VMBA chapters have identified the best routes that should be opened to mountain biking:

  • Trails toward the end of Forest Road 273
  • Glastonbury Fire Tower Loop
  • Oak Ridge Trail from Route 125 to the Moosalamoo Trail
  • Moosalamoo Trail to the Moosalamoo Campground
  • Chandler Ridge Trail from to Silver Lake Campground to Leicester Hollow Trail
  • Forest Service Road 797 (Caryl Brook)
  • Forest Service Road 793 (from Upper Michigan Road to Forest Service Road 84)
  • Forest Service Road 84 (California Road from the 793/84 intersection back to Lower Michigan Road)
