IMBA Epic - Berryman Trail, Missouri - May 12-13, 2001

The first IMBA Epic Celebration Ride of 2001 was held at the Berryman Trail in Missouri's Ozark Mountains May 12-13. It was an awesome weekend of riding, trailwork and group camaraderie. Mountain bikers - including three IMBA state representatives - spent day one maintaining sections of the 40 year old Berryman Trail. This productive day also included building a rolling crown switchback.
Following an evening of riding and festivities, Epic participants gathered on day two to ride the entire 24-mile Berryman Trail loop. The day featured sunny weather, bobsled run-like singletrack and only a few mechanical problems. While most riders were pretty fatigued by the end of the loop - including IMBA staffer and former pro racer Pete Webber - everyone who began the ride finished.
Special thanks to Gateway Off-Road Cycling Club President and eastern Missouri IMBA State Rep John Donjoian for his ground work organizing the event. Thanks also to Mark Twain National Forest's Paul Nazarenko, Earthriders Mountain Bike Club (Kansas City) members who attended the event, and event sponsors Patagonia, SRAM, Bike Magazine and Hydrapak.
Below is a slideshow highlighting the Berryman Trail IMBA Epic Celebration. While this was a one time event, mountain bikers everywhere are encouraged to check out this Missouri gem on their own.
