2011 Washington D.C. Bike Ride
ENJOY A MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE WITH IMBA ON APRIL 29
The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) will host an outing at Northern Virginia’s Occoquan Regional Park — featuring bicycling on the nearby Laurel Hill trails — on April 29. Plan to cut out of work early on Friday afternoon to enjoy great mountain biking, with educational opportunities and networking with other D.C. professionals who focus on natural resources, recreation, environment, public lands and transportation issues.
Everyone is welcome, and all ability levels will enjoy the bicycling. We expect to see federal agency personnel, NGO professionals, lobbyists, local land managers and many others.
An international non-profit, IMBA builds trails, fosters volunteerism and works to improve public lands policy. With 750 bicycle clubs across all 50 states, the IMBA network encourages Americans to enjoy the healthy sport of mountain biking and give back to shared resources.
IMBA’s trailbuilders recently teamed with our local club, the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE), to design and build the Laurel Hill trails. Guided rides will showcase sustainable trail construction principles and the community collaboration that went into creating this model trail system.
What to Bring:
Bring your own bike, or try one of ours. Trek will have 2011-model mountain bikes on hand, plus helmets and everything else you’ll need. Stick around for the post-ride spread of delicious food and bubbly beverages.
Wear athletic clothing, or bike-specific gear if you have it. Pack a jacket if it looks like rain, and don’t forget your personal bike helmet if you have one.
IMBA will provide energy bars and water bottles for everyone, and aid stations will also offer fruit and water.
